AUSSIE BREWED MEAD

We are a very new, very small MEADERY situated in Crows Nest, Queensland, Australia. We produce around 5,000 bottles a year but are hoping to expand. No matter how big we grow, VALKNUT MEADERY will never get so big that we forget about the TLC and ATTENTION our mead deserves.

Ginger Honey Sweet Mead

Sweet mead with good honey notes blended with PURE local juiced GINGER and aged for 10 months

Smoky Oak  Mead

This is a traditional Mead aged on American Oak. VERY SMOOTH. Goes great straight on the rocks or with Honey Whisky.

Strawberry Semi-Dry   Mead

A light, REFRESHING SEMI-DRY mead fermented with Woodford STRAWBERRIES and local HONEY. 

Chilli Lime Sweet Mead

Sweet mead blended with freshly juiced LIMES and our very own homegrown CHILLIES for a little kick.

Blueberry Pancake Mead

Fermented with local honey and organic BERRIES, blended with MAPLE SYRUP, vanilla and cinnamon.

Traditional Mead

A SEMI-SWEET mead fermented with LOCAL bush honey and FILTERED rain water. The FLORAL NOTES are from the IRONBARK honey.

WHAT IS MEAD?

Many call it HONEY WINE, and that's somewhat right, but instead of fermenting grapes, we ferment HONEY WITH WATER.

Both of those ingredients are technically really good for you. Mead was and still is often considered SACRED and was even used for medicinal purposes. This info can possibly help you to keep telling yourself that the combination is somehow really healthy! (Drink responsibly)

Mead is the OLDEST alcohol known to man, & much like the mullet, it’s making a comeback!

The Red Hill Mead Show is THE BIGGEST MEAD COMPETITION in Australia. We first entered our meads in February 2022, out of OVER 90 ENTRIES, we scored a gold medal for the Lime Mead and a silver medal for the Raspberry Coconut mead in the melomel (mead with fruit) category. The Lime Mead also won the top award for the BEST MEAD OF THE COMPETITION with a score of 47/50.

We have continued to enter every year since, taking out SILVER and BRONZE awards in 2023 and 2024.

WHAT IS MEAD?

We use OVER A TONNE of honey each year, supplied by LOCAL beekeepers. Their hives are located in and around local national parks to make sure they get that awesome Australian BUSH HONEY.
